As we celebrate Black History Month 2025, we recognize the national theme: African Americans and the Labor Movement. African Americans have played a pivotal role in shaping labor history, breaking barriers, and paving the way for future generations through resilience, innovation, and leadership.

This year, we are proud to highlight the incredible contributions of African American pioneers who changed the course of history:

  • The Tuskegee Airmen: the first Black military aviators.
  • Asa Philip Randolph: a fearless labor leader who championed fair wages and equal opportunities for Black workers.
  • Bessie Coleman: the first African American woman to earn a pilot’s license.
  • Cornelius Coffey: an aviation pioneer who founded the first Black-owned and operated flight school.
  • Mae C. Jemison: the first Black woman to travel to space.

These trailblazers exemplify the power of labor, perseverance, and progress. Their contributions remind us that African Americans have been instrumental in transforming industries, advocating for equality, and inspiring change.
